Appearance
Share with a client
Every gallery has a visibility setting that controls who can see it.
Visibility
| Mode | Who can see it |
|---|---|
| Private | No one — the gallery is only visible to you in the dashboard |
| Unlisted | Anyone with the link |
| Public | Anyone — the gallery is listed on your portfolio homepage |
New galleries start as Private. When you're ready to share, open the gallery and click Share in the top right to change the visibility and copy the link.
Unlisted is the most common choice for client deliveries — your client gets a direct link, but the gallery won't appear on your public portfolio page.
Public is useful for portfolio pieces you want visitors to browse freely.
You can also layer password protection and expiry dates on top of any visibility mode for additional control.
What clients see
Clients open the link and land directly on a clean, full-screen gallery. Photos display in their full aspect ratio with no cropping. Tapping a photo opens it full-screen with swipe-to-browse and pinch-to-zoom.
Depending on your settings:
- Password — they'll be prompted before viewing
- Your branding — your logo and colors appear instead of Folio's defaults (Starter and above)
- Custom domain — the URL shows your studio's domain (Starter and above)
Folio doesn't add its own branding or watermarks to your photos, and clients are never asked to create an account.
Delivery controls
You decide what clients receive and at what quality:
| Setting | What happens |
|---|---|
| Downloads | Off (view only), JPEG only (web-quality), or Original (uploaded file as-is) |
| Max resolution | Cap the longest edge of delivered images — useful for previews or proofing rounds |
| Watermark | Overlay your own watermark on gallery images — originals are untouched and available when you're ready to deliver finals |
Revoking access
To stop a link from working:
- Set an expiry date — the link stops working automatically at the chosen date
- Delete the gallery — the link returns 404 immediately
- Change the password — the old password stops working; share the new one with clients you want to keep
Tracking
Folio does not currently provide per-client view analytics. Link expiry is the primary tool for time-limiting access.
